Amazon has announced the availability of Alexa+ in India, marking a significant expansion of its conversational assistant capabilities with support for Hindi. The upgraded assistant is now accessible to all customers in the country through an Early Access program, offering functionality in both Hindi and English languages.
The new Alexa+ represents a substantial improvement over its predecessor, featuring the ability to hold longer conversations while maintaining context throughout interactions. The assistant also boasts a more expressive voice, making interactions feel more natural and engaging for users across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.
One of the standout features of Alexa+ is its sophisticated language handling capability. Users can seamlessly switch between English and Hindi mid-sentence, accommodating the bilingual communication style common among many Indian speakers. This flexibility addresses a key need in a market where code-switching between languages is part of everyday conversation.
The assistant’s capabilities extend to handling complex multi-step tasks, including practical everyday functions like ordering groceries through Amazon’s quick commerce service, Amazon Now, and controlling smart home devices with simple voice commands to turn them on or off. These features aim to make Alexa+ an integral part of users’ daily routines.
Amazon has integrated Alexa+ with several prominent Indian services, expanding its utility for local users. The platform connects with food delivery service Swiggy, Zomato’s ticket booking platform District, travel websites TripAdvisor and MakeMyTrip, and restaurant reservation app EazyDiner. Music streaming integration includes both Amazon Music and the popular Indian service JioSaavn, giving users voice-controlled access to entertainment options.
The pricing structure for Alexa+ reflects a tiered approach to monetization. Following the Early Access testing period, the service will be offered free to Amazon Prime subscribers. Non-Prime customers will need to pay a monthly subscription fee of 2,000 rupees, equivalent to approximately $20.85, to access the enhanced features.
The launch follows a period of testing that began in June 2026, when Amazon invited users to participate in a program specifically designed to evaluate Alexa+’s Hindi conversation capabilities. The company subsequently expanded its testing to include an English version of the assistant, gathering feedback to refine the experience before this wider release.
This launch builds on Amazon’s nearly decade-long presence in the Indian market with voice assistant technology. The company first introduced Alexa to India in 2017, initially offering the service exclusively in English. The addition of Hindi support through Alexa+ represents Amazon’s commitment to deepening its engagement with Indian consumers by breaking down language barriers that have historically limited technology adoption in the country.
