Meta Launches Open-Source Muse Gadgets for Developers

Meta is opening up its popular AI agent Muse to the hardware hacking community with a new initiative that could transform how people interact with artificial intelligence in their daily lives. On October 2, 2026, the company launched Muse Gadgets, an ambitious open-source project designed to let developers and tinkerers build custom hardware devices that connect directly to Muse, the personal AI agent that handles tasks like booking travel, filling out forms, and shopping on users’ behalf.

The project provides developers with comprehensive tools to get started, including open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit. Meta has designed the platform to be remarkably accessible, allowing users to work with affordable hobbyist computers like Raspberry Pi or readily available ESP32 boards. The possibilities are intentionally broad, with Meta encouraging users to connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors, actuators, and whatever other components they have available in their workshops.

To demonstrate the potential of the platform, Meta has already built its own prototype device. Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, revealed that the company created a gadget called Muse Home Link, a USB-C-powered device that enables Muse to connect directly to home networks and communicate with smart devices including speakers and smart TVs. Meta manufactured 5,000 of these Muse Home Links and is distributing them free of charge to users interested in experimenting with the technology.

The Muse Gadgets initiative represents just one piece of Meta’s comprehensive strategy to expand Muse beyond a simple standalone chatbot. The company is simultaneously pursuing multiple market segments, including small businesses and enterprise customers. On September 29, Meta introduced Muse for Small Business, a free service with usage limits that integrates with popular business tools such as Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. This allows small business owners to leverage AI assistance across their existing workflow platforms.

Meta’s ambitions in the enterprise space are underscored by the creation of a dedicated business unit called Meta Enterprise Platform, established specifically to push the company’s AI offerings to businesses and corporate customers. This multi-pronged approach demonstrates Meta’s determination to embed Muse deeply into both consumer and professional environments, making it an integral part of how people and businesses operate rather than just another AI chatbot competing for attention in an increasingly crowded market.
